Overview

An intriguing mixture of fact and fiction, The Prague Affair tells the story of a young American soldier who, at the end of his three-year stint in the army, is recruited to stay in West Germany as a spy during the height of the Cold War. Author L. A. Wiggins knows from firsthand experience what it's like to serve as a young soldier in Europe during the 1960s who falls in love with a British schoolteacher. The Prague Affair is a thrill ride grounded in real-life experiences. Follow Billy Wright onto a college campus in the Soviet-bloc city of Prague as he uses his boyish charms and quick wits to complete covert operations. When he encounters a female double agent, however, he's lured into a compromising situation that may end his career before it even begins. Can Billy learn to navigate the complex maze of city streets, the intricate web of Soviet secrets, and the dark muddle of underhand dealings in time to help important scientists and engineers defect to the United States? Or will the Stasi capture him first?

Author Information

L. A. Wiggins was one of eight kids born to a rural farming family in Central Florida. In the early 1960s, when he was seventeen, he and his twin brother left home to join the army. Wiggins was deployed to West Germany for several years, where he was assigned to an army transport company, a posting he enjoyed after a grueling life of farm work. Toward the end of his enlistment, he met Nikki, a beautiful schoolteacher from London, and was granted a European discharge to work in England for a year. Married for forty-four years, they initially lived in Florida, where Wiggins worked for Delta Airlines. After twelve years, they returned to the United Kingdom with their two children and started an antiques exporting business, which they ran for years before retiring in the United States. After Nikki passed away in 2011, Wiggins discovered a passion for writing books.
