Overview

The Political Economy of Middle East Peace looks at the political economy of the Middle Eastern peace process with a focus on the politics of trade. Contributors investigate the ways new commercial alliances develop as a result of economic agencies established via the Arab-Israeli peace process and look at institutions which contribute to redirection of Arab intra- and inter-regional trade, such as the Palestine Monetary Authority, the Middle East Development Bank and free trade zone agencies in Aquaba and Dubai.

Reviews

An important contribution to an understudied area... Overall, this book is an excellent addition to the literature on the political economy of the Middle East process. Most of its chapters are clear and well written and are especiallyuseful insofar as they contain both theory-based discussions and practical suggestions. By combining case studies and theoretical work, the book serves as a useful bridge between narrow studies of specific factors afecting the peace process and broaded comparative political economy debates. Arab Studies Journal, Fall 1999/Spring 2000, Joseph Glicksberg This book, a collection of well-written articles by prominent scholars in the field, reveals the relationships between politics and competing trade agendas with direct reference to the Arab-Israeli peace process. . . . This collection is informative, interesting, thought-provoking, and persuasive. Recommended for upper-division undergraduate through professional collections. - Choice, 02/00
