OverviewThe dried flowers on the cover of this diary were collected from the battlefields of France during the First World War by Len Smith, an accredited war artist. He would stand in no man's land and sketch enemy positions with little thought for his own safety. His drawings would then be used by Allied Command to decide on their next military course of action. Len also kept detailed notes from the time he signed up, until the end of the war. He then collated the notes he had kept hidden in his puttees into this diary - together with his watercolours and the pressed flowers. His diary is reproduced here in its original format for the first time.
