In general, it may be said that the needs of the small church, in city, village, and country, have been carefully. Considered in this compilation. The form, arrangement, and typography of this book, are the re sult of the careful study of practical needs. So far as possible every hymn has an alternative tune on the same or Opposite page. A line drawn through a page indicates that the hymn below it belongs to a tune on the opposite page. Wherever it has been at all possible, the words have been placed within the music.. When the first stanza has found room in the music only, that fact has been noted to prevent embarrassing mistakes in announcement or reading.
