Overview

Putting out a new, revised edition of this book is a little embarrassing for me. In light of the Me Too movement and progress against misogyny, some of my stories now sound a bit Neanderthal! I wish all men were evolved and obsessed with justice and kindness. But, alas, they are still not.Lie it or not, the mindset of sex-obsessed men is still playing on team mankind. I can't claim to be overly mature, either. But when I read these stories I admit I laugh an awful lot at the naked truth behind the awkward patriarchy of men. Men trying to fit into the circle of men.We dudes do curate a collective of attitudes and obsessions from our adolescence. We revert to them often when we try to fit in. I'm not a big sports guy and couldn't tell you who played 2nd base on the Yankees in 1972. But when I'm out on the back deck at a dinner party with all the guys, I find myself nodding and laughing along. Even at the stories about wives and women when I know they're unjust stereotypes that sound a lot like a bunch of Bonobos grunting and throwing their poop.I'm not going to apologize because the voices in this book are still out there. There is enough truth to be useful even though some will wince at calling women chicks. I never wrote the words Old Lady which is still bantered in the locker room and smoke-filled offices.Hopefully, by the end of this painfully honest reflection on our inner middle-schooler, there will be some redemption of the poor little guys. And that this sneak peek might inform anyone still suffering under the fantasy of maturity in their own dudes.
