Overview

'A beautiful exploration of family, love and loss across the generations. Fresh, fun... I didn't want it to end.' Gemma Chan   How far would you travel to find a love lost in time? 1927, East London. The first time Tommy and Peggy meet, they are nine years old. He is lost in London's original Chinatown, panicking as he struggles to escape the tangle of Limehouse streets, with their road signs in Chinese characters that he can't decipher.  'Where do you come from?' Peggy asks him. For Tommy, the answer to that question can never be straightforward, because his family share a secret gift: they can travel through time. And each must eventually decide how much the present day means to them, and how far they are willing to travel to hold onto the people they love. Heartfelt and hopeful, weaving through decades and across continents, The Moon Represents My Heart is an unforgettable debut about one extraordinary family, the gift that threatens to tear them apart and the love that binds them together.  'An immediately compelling, unusual story with a totally fresh voice.' Jennifer Saint, author of Ariadne

A beautiful exploration of family, love and loss across the generations, it gives a fresh, fun spin on the time travel genre combined with a heartrending immigrant story. I didn’t want it to end. Pim has a unique voice.' -- Gemma Chan 'Poetic, beautiful, and moving, The Moon Represents My Heart is unforgettable.' -- Louise O'Neill, author of Idol 'As propulsive as it is moving, The Moon Represents My Heart is an enchanting tale of family and heartbreak.' -- Jing-Jing Lee, author of How We Disappeared 'Masterfully plotted, poetic, and captivating, The Moon Represents My Heart establishes Pim Wangtechawat as a rising star from South-East Asia's rich literary heritage.' -- Nguyen Phan Que Mai, author of The Mountains Sing 'In The Moon Represents My Heart, Pim Wangtechawat paints an emotional and panoramic portrait of a family as united by their gift as they are tested by it. Intimate, tender and imaginative, this novel takes the reader on a time-traveling adventure while imparting the wisdom of how cherished and truly priceless time is.' -- Katherine J. Chen, author of Joan 'The Moon Represents My Heart... was an immediately compelling, unusual story with a totally fresh voice – a fascinating story of love and time travel, full of mystery and heart.’ -- Jennifer Saint, author of Ariadne ‘An extraordinary debut. Pim Wangtechawat creates a magical tale of love, loss and yearning, full of poetic prose and powerful insight. Bishop, author Ritual of Fire 'An utterly mesmerising and poetic debut filled with characters that feel like family, that shatters your heart and pieces it back together beautifully. The Moon Represents My Heart is truly an exceptional piece of literature.' -- Elvin James Mensah, author of Small Joys 'Gives seriously sweeping Time Traveller's Wife vibes.' -- Grazia 'A tender and transformative debut, with the Wang family as its beating heart. Wangtechawat captures love in all its many forms.' -- Grace D. Li, author of Portrait of a Thief ‘Bold, experimental, and beautiful, The Moon Represents My Heart might break your heart, but it'll also put it back together again. A sweeping tale across the fabric of time, countries and cultural borders, and family ties, this book is a rumination on how grief can keep you trapped in the past, but there's always the hope to move forward once again.’ -- L.R. Lam, Sunday Times-bestselling co-author of Seven Devils 'The Wang family possesses a gift, the power to travel through time. But rather than bringing happiness, it often tears them apart. After their parents depart for another era, young Tommy and Eva must fend for themselves. Tommy falls in love – but how long can you live in the past? This poignant tale sweeps across three generations of a British-Chinese family.' -- Woman's Own 'Just like how the original title is a song, Pim Wangtechawat's debut reads like a poem… Time-travelling is used effectively here, as it helps explore the concept of the generational impact of choices in the book.' -- United by Pop
