OverviewThe book is centred around the investigation of the romantic hero in the hypostasis of a misfit in the 19th-century Romanian literature - a period which saw the evolution of artistic procedures aimed at creating literary characters through broadening of perspective and enrichment of methods. It is the beginning of a progress which will lead to the integration of the Romanian literature into the universal fiction. Insufficiently prepared for introspection, Romanian writers lacked the knowledge of the epical integration inside the human being. Consequently, in the second half of the last century Romanian writers are not only approaching social fiction, but they are also sensitive to the European changes concerning fiction, considering new material to work on. With a new vision, they experiment with the perspective from the outside inwards; they concentrate on self-analysis and on the observation of the inside of human being - a very complex universe revealed only through a psychological analysis. The book explores some individual reactions to the social pressure.
