Overview

Interacting with other people is always difficult - whatever some may say! Because the way we see the others in determined by our deepest beliefs: in ourselves, in other people, in the world and in life in general. These beliefs are like meta-programs: they are alive active, but we are not aware of them. Transactional analysts called them life positions. The concept appeared in the late 60s and, since then, it has developed on several coordinates. From Berne's initial four positions, we have now 12; from Ernst's two characters directly involved in the interactions, now we have arrived at 5 - directly and indirectly part of the interaction. And it has also broadened its application area. If originally used in analyzing human behavior in therapy, now it has found its use in the field of education, allowing teachers to analyze the way in which they deal with students. But the most spread use is in organizational analysis and diagnosis. It allows the consultant to identify the way in which leaders relate to their followers, bosses to their employees and even peers. It is used by coaches and trainers in order to detect what goes wrong with the coaches or trainees during the dynamics of their encounter. And it is also used in conflict mediation - but just starting! The book is like an aspirin: it doesn't cure or solve the problems, but helps understanding: of the self, of the others, of the world around us. And it helps both the individual and the organization to grow and develop, to become better and to operate skillfully the fine tuning of the human interactions .
