OverviewWhat is a Patriarch? Can you name at least one of the 10 Hebrew spies listed in Numbers 13 who convinced Israel that the Promised Land was too tough to conquer? Or at least one of the sons of Esau listed in Genesis 36? How about either of the men who deserted Paul in the province of Asia in 2nd Timothy 1:15? Why do even the most seasoned Christians who know their Bibles well have a hard time coming up with the names of those men? We don't remember any of those men for the simple reason that their lives were so forgettable. When the going got tough, they got lost. When the kitchen got hot, they fanned their way to the basement. They were boys in adult bodies, males who never chose to become men. Patriarchs they were not. And the tragic thing is, their wimpish spiritual descendants are alive and well, filing out our pews and multiplying in our homes in ever-growing numbers. Men, this has to change!
