Overview

Alfred Hitchcock, at the height of his powers, is possessed by a dreamlike vision of a woman. From his director’s chair the sixty year old Hitchcock begins to unravel some of the defining films of our time, drawing us into the imagination of one of the world’s most mysterious creative minds. This poetic new play takes a unique look at the way the great filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock developed the idea of his most famous films, including Marnie, Vertigo, Psycho and Strangers on A Train. The result is a unique and haunting character study and an unprecedented journey into the mind of one our most fascinating cultural icons.

Darkly riveting - What Rudkin does brilliantly is demonstrate that Hitchcock's art is the key to his life - a rich, multilayered play that clearly stems from a lifelong love of its subject. * Four stars - Guardian * Hitchcock buffs rejoice: The Lovesong of Alfred J. Hitchcock will put your knowledge of the work and life of the Master of Suspense to test. And for those without an encyclopedic recall of the film director's output, there is still much to enjoy in this thoughtful play. * Exeunt * A strength of Lovesong is its often deft use of theatrical means to evoke another art - movies - which, in the case of the Hitchcock classics, have taken up residence in our heads, as this play neatly demonstrates. * New York Times *
