Overview

"Welcome to my first ""ALL ABOARD"" children's 3-book series involving trains and true events in the early 1900's. Luke and Summer live a couple blocks from the train depot in the small mining town of Wallace Idaho. Because their daddy is a train conductor for the Northern Pacific Railroad, Luke and Summer recognize every train that rolls through their little mountain community. Some trains carry silver and gold from the local mines and others carry people to and from Wallace. In Book 3, The Long Cold Snowstorm, Summer and Luke experience a surprise adventure when they go on their two week annual spring visit to Grandpa and Grandma in Scenic, Washington. Their adventure begins on a snowy day at the Great Northern Railway Depot in Spokane, Washington. Daddy has just taken the twins to the depot to meet Grandpa, who is a train conductor for the Great Northern Railway. Grandpa soon has the children settled into their warm cozy beds on his train to Scenic. Instead of waking up the next morning to see Grandma in Scenic, they wake up to the passenger train stuck between snow avalanches on a mountain pass. And, it is still snowing! Summer and Luke's adventure is based on the February 1910 Wellington Avalanche. Because the Bible and Jesus was the heart of many families in early American history, the Christian value of ""faith"" has been incorporated into the story. And please don't forget to check out the educational ""Fun Facts"" at the end of the book. Happy ""rail"" reading!"

Author Information

"Marlene lives in southern Oregon with her husband, Larry, and their cat, Twinkles. They have three married sons and eight grandchildren. In 2013 Marlene wrote her first children's book titled ""Charming Chirp,"" a true story involving two of her grandchildren. Marlene received the ""2015 Purple Dragonfly Honorable Mention"" book award for picture books 6 & older. this award was sponsored by Five Star Publications in recognition of excellence in children's literature. Marlene decided to write a children's 3-book train series two years ago. She had just attended the annual Northern Pacific Railway Historical Association convention with her husband, an avid railway fan. Attending the convention was nothing new! But her sudden realization that: The majority of the convention members were older! There were no children in attendance! The true stories shared by convention members about their days of working on the railroad were positively entertaining! There are many magazines and books written to preserve train history for the adults! But, where are the train ""historical story books"" written for the children? Especially for ages 4-7, when they are the most impressionable! Shouldn't children be ""trained"" whey they are young? Hence, Marlene's first ""ALL ABOARD"" 3-book train series based on early 1900's historical events. Through the fictional characters of Luke and Summer, children, ages 4-7, can have an entertaining read, plus learn the impact trains had on early American history!"
