Overview

This book is a series of lectures that were given through the spiritual mediumship of Mr. Richard P. Goodwin, the founder of the Serenity Association, and are part of the Living Light Philosophy. This series lectures were delivered during the devotional services of the Serenity Church and are thus called Church Lectures. They cover a wide range of topics, and here are some the lecture titles: ""Our Spiritual Responsibility,"" ""Evolutionary Incarnation,"" ""Attention and Energy,"" ""Growing in the Light,"" and ""The Wisdom of Tolerance"" to name a few of the 83 lectures. While each lecture appears to bring progressively higher teachings, each, nevertheless, stands by itself and is attuned to both the beginning as well as the advanced student. Because they were given to the congregation, which included both the general public and the students of Mr. Goodwin, many people who are new to the Living Light have found these teachings to be quite accessible. So this volume is a good introduction to these teachings. This book is the ninth volume in the series entitled The Living Light Dialogue, and many more are to be published. This spiritual philosophy consists of the spiritual awareness classes, lectures, and discourses that were given through the spiritual mediumship of Mr. Goodwin and is one of individual responsibility and awareness. Any student of life will find in this philosophy, through the published books and audio recordings, the teachings necessary for the mind's awakening to the truth of the soul's eternal expression. The teaching in and of itself is a continuous flow. The Teacher, expressing through the mediumship of Mr. Goodwin, speaks of the neutrality of God, evolutionary incarnation, soul faculties and sense functions and their corresponding locations in the anatomy, the power of peace, the law that whatever happens to us is caused by us, and many other personally demonstrable laws which will constantly expand the student's awareness. These teachings are invaluable as tools to further your knowledge of the universal laws of life. The methods, discourses, and exercises given are useful, practical, and pertinent to your everyday living as well as to your higher aspirations. This spiritual philosophy affirms that our soul, our true being, is inseparably a part of the Divine and reveals the spiritual laws and the divine laws that govern all life and how we may apply those laws for our greater health, wealth, and happiness. The very foundation of these spiritual teachings is the Law of Personal Responsibility, which states in part that we are responsible for all our experiences. By the laws that we establish with our thoughts, acts, and words, we are the creators of all our experiences in life. Our experiences in life are reflecting back to us where we are in consciousness. In this understanding, God is not a creator, but God is a divine, neutral, infinite intelligent energy that sustains all life. Another divine law that is emphasized is that like attracts like and becomes the Law of Attachment. In addition, great emphasis is place on understanding how our minds work, and how we may, through self-control, more effectively use our minds to accomplish our goals and experience the goodness of life. The philosophy helps us to discern between the thoughts of our mind and the gentle promptings of our soul. These spiritual teachings are filled with inspirational quotes, affirmations, spiritual sayings, and spiritual exercises. The Living Light Philosophy offers a path to a conscious awareness of our own divinity, but it is up to us to make the effort to walk that path.

Richard P. Goodwin was the youngest of seven children, reared by a mother who supported her family by giving spiritual counseling to those in need. Mediumship and spirit phenomena were no stranger to Richard. He first demonstrated his ability as a medium at the age of fourteen. Over the years since then, he has been the instrument through which spirit has been able to communicate to those who sought his help. As a young adult, Richard became convinced that being a medium, through which spirit was able to manifest, brought only temporary solace to those who were witness to it. He observed that people soon became fascinated by the phenomena and ignored the help that spirit was trying to impart. It was then that Richard began to pray in earnest for a teacher from the realms of light. One who could bring through teachings that would benefit any soul who was seeking a path to greater awareness of himself and of God, who is the source of all life. It was in the year 1964 that the teacher Richard had prayed so earnestly for came through for the first time. Richard was at first apprehensive about what this new teacher had to impart. Richard, for the first time, was taken into deep trance and not able to control what was being revealed through him. It was only after the sitting concluded that he was able to listen to the recorded message. He would not take for granted the validity of the message brought through him and determined to test this new teacher before giving way in deep trance to further communication. It was not long before Richard became convinced of the goodness of the teacher and of the simple and beautiful teachings he had to impart, so began The Living Light philosophy. For more than 25 years, he gave, through his mediumship, the classes, lectures, and discourses which constitute the Living Light. Having completed the work for which he came to earth and to which he had dedicated his life, Mr. Goodwin passed peacefully from this earth on February 24, 1989.
