Overview

The Legend of the Fire Stag celebrates the deep connections that can form between the land and its inhabitants, human and nonhuman. This is the story of a magnificent stag who once guarded and cared for the creatures of the land that became Cielo Grande Ranch, and of the young boy who inherits his legacy. The book will encourage children to establish a connection with nature, be in tune with their surroundings and use their imaginations.

One of the things I love most about this legend--born of perhaps the most elemental force on earth--is that it follows the protagonist, Clifton, from childhood into young adulthood and, it is hoped, beyond. It's a reminder to all of us of how all things are connected, and that when we care for the land, we are caring for all others, including ourselves. --Rick Bass, author of Winter: Notes from Montana, The Ninemile Wolves, and The Watch
