Overview

The Intrepid Nonprofit is a playbook for nonprofit leaders to help them navigate the turbulent environment ahead. It examines difficult challenges facing nonprofits, such as shrinking or stagnating revenue sources, technological change, under-performing boards, staff turnover, mission drift, or measuring intangible results. Drawing insights from organizations that have not only prospered but sometimes achieved outstanding results, the book outlines practical strategies for success, including some out-of-the-box approaches to leadership. It also calls upon governments and foundations to do more to support the sector. Tomorrow's nonprofit leaders will have to be intrepid-resolute, imaginative, adaptable, and courageous. This book will inspire and sustain them when the going gets tough.

Author Information

"Over three decades, Tim Plumptre has worked in the nonprofit sector in many roles: as a CEO, a director, a board chair, a consultant to numerous organizations, a community volunteer, a funder, and as the founder of the nonprofit Institute On Governance. His work has carried him to every province and territory of Canada, to indigenous communities in the high north, and to over 35 countries. His earlier book, Beyond the Bottom Line: Management in Government became a best-seller within 3 months and was reviewed as ""splendid"" innovative, insightful, and a ""must-buy"" for ""any senior government official, or anyone aspiring to be one."" Previous to much of his involvement in the nonprofit sector, Tim worked as a journalist for The Globe and Mail, as an assistant to a federal cabinet minister and a deputy minister, and as a consultant to a wide range of public sector organizations at the federal, provincial, territorial, and municipal levels. His education has included studies at the University of Toronto (Honours BA, political science and economics), the London School of Economics (MSc, Econ), and Oxford University (Certificate in Management Studies)."
