Overview

The International Reader: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Current Events and Global Issues provides students with diverse insights into major world regions and an array of complex topics and current events, including climate change, environmental degradation, pandemics, urbanization, income disparities, and more. The book is organized into chapters on each of the six major world regions: Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and Oceania. The anthology employs an interdisciplinary approach, encouraging students to question, discuss, and analyze global issues across a range of disciplines and fields of study. Topics addressed within the book include Islamist extremism in East Africa, the power of industry in China, the effects of COVID-19 on the Pacific Islands, the recent surge of populism in Europe, the collapse of authoritarianism in the Middle East, and the catastrophic economic crisis in Venezuela, among others. Developed to help students think critically, learn about the world around them, and make informed decisions as global citizens, The International Reader is an ideal resource for a wide range of courses with an international dimension, including those that examine current events, women's studies, political science, history, anthropology, and geography in global contexts.
