As seeurity for this there were from time to time deposited title deeds and otl.er doeuments relating to several plantations, ships, properties, and undertakings bv letter in the nature of equitable eharges The total amount of the ereditors ot Cruikshank and Co. on the 1st of January, 1845, was about 396,000; hut taking their debts and properties at that time (eonsisting of good debts, eonsignments abroad, produee in hand, ships and shipments, patents and estates) at the value assumed in the enpitul aeeount, there appears E. balanee in favour of the firm amounting to about 36,000, and although in general the value of the property is over animated by the owner, I eaunot say that the bankrupts were not jnstified in estimating the debts due to them and their properties as good to the full extent for wineh they take eredit in their eapital aee' unton the 1st of January, 1845; but the realization sinee, aetual and expeeted, shows the sad and ruinons loss of above. 190,000, or nearly 50 per eent.
