Overview

Germany was the most powerful kingdom in the medieval West from the mid-tenth to the mid-thirteenth century. However, its history remains largely unknown outside of the German-speaking regions of modern Europe. Until recently, almost all of the sources for medieval Germany were available only in the original Latin or in German translations, while most scholarly investigation has been in German. Reviews

’...this volume would make a very useful addition to any university library where medieval history is taught. Overall, in producing such as an accessible and engaging edition of sources Bachrach has done a great service to the study of urban history in the high medieval period, as well as to the history of medieval Germany in general.’ Urban History
