Overview

In the wake of 9/11, a top-secret government agency titled The Federal Rapid Response Unit was created back in 2001. Immediately nicknamed Unit One by then-President George W. Bush, it was comprised of only the very top agents from various agencies such as the C.I.A., F.B.I. and N.S.A.; this investigative/ paramilitary force was designed exclusively for the purpose of stamping out Middle East terrorism before it could ever gain a foothold on American soil again. Everything worked as planned until Christmas Eve, 2015, when Accurate Energetic Systems , a Tennessee company that manufactures C-4 explosives for the Defense Department, was overrun by a group of home grown terrorists under the direction of a former Navy SEAL now gone bad. This crisis soon would escalate into the worst predicament our country and perhaps the entire world has ever faced. Based on actual, ever-fluid, breaking-news events, The Heroes of La Palma will have you shaking your head at how easily this plot could potentially take place in real-life. But when the dust settles, you'll also be thankful that for once, it seems that our government finally did something right...it created Unit One . The Heroes of La Palma is Book 1 of the series, The Federal Rapid Response Unit .

Author Information

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Angelo Spagnolo first attended the Bishop's Latin School, a pre-seminary school that was located in Pittsburgh. Upon graduating in 1972 though, he decided not to enter the seminary but instead enrolled in Point Park College in Pittsburgh obtaining a Journalism & Communications degree in 1976. After a few years of operating both a weekly newspaper, The Pittsburgh North Star and weekly sports publication, Pittsburgh's Black & Gold , he found himself leaving the newspaper business during the economic upheaval in the early '80s. He subsequently rejoined his family's successful supermarket operation and he would go on to eventually own and operate supermarkets for the next 25 years. It's an intense business though, he remarked. Twenty-five years in supermarkets is like 50 years in any other career. So upon retiring from the food business in 2001, he decided to rekindle his writing career. His first book came about in 2013 when he published his first book...a 'golf autobiography' of all things... on his unusual career as America's Worst Avid Golfer . The title of this humorous work was, Life's an...Unplayable Lie. Just one year later and fresh off his first publishing success, the writing bug bit Angelo again, this time with the inspiration for his first work of fiction, written, as he describes it, in modified screenplay format . This gripping tale was titled, The Heroes of La Palma . In this book, he created a top-secret government agency and a diabolical plot that would make Goldfinger blush. The author was thrilled at both the ease with which he was able to write this story as well as the quality of the adventure he had created. With this being my first-ever piece of fiction, I now really felt like I'd missed my true calling in life. Oh well, maybe it's still not too late after all! The Heroes of La Palma was an espionage thriller and this story is subtitled as Book 1 in a series titled, The Federal Rapid Response Unit , so there are already other stories in the works . This book was designed to truly look and feel like a movie in book form, said the author. I feel that with the way it is structured that my readers will be able to read it scene-by-scene which will allow for them to take breaks in the action, rather than having to drop everything for a weekend to enjoy it. But trust me, this story is so compelling that readers aren't going to want to put it down!
