Overview

"After the fall of Saigon, Thanh's family's wealth vanished at the stroke of a pen. Her parents had to make the agonizing decision whether stay together as a family with six children and languish in poverty, or use the little money they had to give at least one child the opportunity to live in freedom. They chose to send Thanh, their twelve-year-old daughter, to Australia. If she survived, the rest of the family could join her there. Ruthless pirates attacked and ended that hope. A vicious storm tossed their helpless boat until finally, Thanh ended up on an uninhabited island. Starving and weak, she couldn't give up. Her family depended on her. Her inspiring story of her love for her family, courage, perseverance and gratitude to be able to live in the USA, led legendary radio talk-show host, Barry Farber, to dub her a ""ground kisser,"" a sentiment many Vietnam veterans understand. Thanh offers her undying thanks to all who American military who served, especially those who served in the Vietnam War and generously supports many veterans organizations."

Incredible heroine who inspires us all. I'm very happy and proud to have my fingerprints on this book. Thanh is in my Hall of Fame! Eva Marie Everson, Award-winning author, President of Word Weavers International This book puts an exclamation point on what it means to be an American. It should be required reading for alll students--for all Americans. The Honorable Tommy Battle, Mayor of Huntsville, AL Being involved with the rescue of 29 Vietnamese boat people, this book was close to my heart. Author Information

"Award-winning author, Lisa Worthey Smith, weaves stories of faith, hope, and love. She has been called the ""parable teacher"" for her gift of using ordinary events to illustrate profound truths. Lisa and her husband are empty-nesting in north Alabama, where she writes with a cup of Earl Grey alongside her, and tends her hummingbird garden. Thanh was born to a wealthy family in Vietnam, but that wealth vanished at the fall of Saigon. Her compelling story prompted all who heard it to suggest she write it in book form. She often speaks to veteran's groups, with a special fondness for those who served in Vietnam. She makes every effort to tell them ""thank you,"" and ""welcome home,"" and generously supports veteran's organizations as well as orphanages in Vietnam."
