The General's Bride: Jade Dynasty: Origins

Overview

Yìchén As the third son of the Lu family, I wouldn't inherit a title or lands so I joined the military to try and make a name for myself, and I did. I was now a general in the Imperial Guard. I served my country faithfully and asked for nothing in return. It was my sacred duty. When I'm summoned to the capitol by my fiancée's grandfather, I wasn't sure what to expect. It certainly wasn't that she had eloped with another man because she didn't want to be married to a soldier. I wasn't in love with the woman, I barely knew her, but I was rather insulted. I was intrigued, however, when her grandfather offered another granddaughter in her stead. The marriage agreement wouldn't need to be broken if I married a woman I'd never met before, but could I trust that she wouldn't betray me like my fiancée had? Could she even handle the hard life of a soldier's wife? Meilan People were stupid. That was my general feeling about most of the population, especially anyone of noble birth. I was born a noble, but spent most of my life in the countryside. I had more respect for a farmer than I did titled lord. I'd been summoned to the capitol by my grandfather, one of the few people I respected. When he offered to let me take my cousin's place in a marriage agreement, I wasn't against the idea. General Lu was a handsome man and he was very straight forward about what life would be like as his wife. Life on the border didn't scare me. Social events did. I had no patience for people that hadn't put in a true day's work in their lives. Between intrigued at the Imperial Palace, my idiotic cousin, and trying to find a wagon big enough to transport my peach tree, I had very little time to worry about living at the borderlands. I was more concerned with why the Emperor was suddenly trying to give me a title and how I could gracefully get out of it without losing my head.
