Overview

Inspired by the Ruby'aiyat of Omar Khayyam, The Garden Path offers a unique and insightful view of the path of spiritual enlightenment; the path of a human life in this Earthly Garden. Stages along this path are described in 108 limericks, each providing food for thought and contemplation. A final essay shows the unity of faith and reason on this path, and describes the sub rosa transmission of the sacred knowledge of humanity, carried on in the cacophony of the everyday marketplace.

Reviews

The Garden Path is a beautiful and unusual book. It consists of 108 illustrated limericks, a few lines of poetic inspiration dramatizing a path of spiritual liberation. The path is tricky, thorny, moving from the would-be Seekers consciousness in sleep, to uncertainty and confusion, to eventual awakening. Spiritual aspirants will find this elegant manual helpful; it can inspire as well as guide. The final section is an essay on the life and work of the medieval Persian poet Omar Khayyam, surely a fitting example of a life lived in wisdom and grace. - Alex S. Kohav, Ph.D., Author of The Sod Hypothesis, editor of Mysticism and Meaning and Mysticism and Experience. Who would ever have thought that the spiritual life could be captured through a load of limericks? Not me, but I loved this little book and kept returning to it to find new meanings and deeper encouragement to practice. - Susan Blackmore, Ph.D., Author of Seeing Myself: What Out-of-Body Experiences Tell Us About Life, Death and the Mind; Consciousness: A Very Short Introduction; Zen and the Art of Consciousness; Ten Zen Questions; and The Meme Machine.
