Excerpt from The Feed Situation, Vol. 80: April-May-June 1946 The index of feed grain prices in mid-april was only 1 point below'the wartime peak of 184 reached in mid-1944. Prices received by farmers for corn through mid-april averaged slightly higher this season than last, and about the same as in 1944, their wartime peak. Oats prices to mid-april averaged about the same as last season, but slightly lower than two years ago, when prices were the highest for the war period. Barley and grain sorghum prices have averaged higher this season than for any year since 1920. Prices paid by farmers for hay during recent months have been below those of early 1945, when they were the highest since 1920. Prices paid by farmers for mixed dairy food have recently been higher than at any time during the war, and the highest since 'world war 1.
