OverviewExcerpt from The Feed Situation: January 1944 Domestic disappearance of the four principal feed grains corn, oats. Barley, and grain sorghums in the october-december quarter of 1993 amounted to about 98 million tons, an increase of 8 percent over the 95 million tons consumed in the corresponding quarter of 1992. Disappearance of these grains in July - September 1993, totaling 23 million tons. Was about 17 percent greater than in the same quarter a year earlier. Hence disappearance in October - December, although larger in absolute amount, showed relatively less increase over 1992 than disappearance in the summer ouarter. The estimated quantity of wheat and rye fed to livestock reached a record level of million tons in the summer quarter of 1993 but declined to about million tons in october-december. Nevertheless, the use of wheat and rye for feed in october-december was nearly double that of a year earlier. And was almost four times as large as the average quantity fed in this quarter during the 5 years 1937-m1.
