When the author lost her mother, unexpectedly, in 2016, she was devastated. Months of searching for relief yielded very little in the way of real healing for her, that is until she stumbled upon the fact that when she was cooking, especially the family recipes that she and her mother (and grandmother) had cooked together, she felt differently. Cooking in her mother's kitchen reshaped her grief into something meaningful.
