Overview

"This book, by the late Perry Watts, captures the story of ""Witchcraft"". This Liberator, based in Rackheath, England towards the end of World War II, had the unique record in the 8th Army Air Force of flying 130 credited missions without aborting. This sequel to the 2006 book (also published by Schiffer) on the 467th Heavy Bombardment Group, sets this Liberator in context. Starting with its creation in the then largest factory in the world, chronicling its transit like many Liberators to the UK via Brazil and Africa, to the detailed stories of its often hazardous missions with its Group over occupied Europe and during the battle for Germany 1944-5, this is a special testimony to an outstanding example of why and how the B-24 played such a key role in the World War II liberation of occupied Europe. AUTHOR: Perry Watts (1929-2013), official historian of the local wartime US 8th Army Air Force base, Rackheath, Norfolk, England 1944-45, served in Malaya 1947-49, former RAF cadet pilot and executive. First mesmerised by the USAAF as a schoolboy watching hundreds of Liberators flying overhead in 1944. 215 colour and b/w photographs"
