The Faded Colours: A Book of Short Stories Collection

Overview

The book is the finest collection of ten short stories, and there is a reason for showing this title to this collection of short stories, because these are the stories of the people who are from the bottom line of society. Sometimes they do not have a name. Their identity is colour, caste, complexion of their body. It is the only identity they have in society to recognize, unfortunately, not by name. They were treated in society as not as human beings. They were to discriminate, they were to bear the brunt of the upper classes, they were to oppress. If Dora was in anger he curses them; they are to bear it. Such was the condition of these people in these stories. The short story THE DEFILED FRAGRANCE is a beautiful story of a Dalit woman, Ramakka. The story never touches up on casteism. Finally is the portrait of people who were crushed under the iron foot of discrimination, and even the story DOG'S TAX is the real picture of the people from the bottom of the society and discriminated to the cruel brutality of the caste system, and a stalwart figure, Sanjeev. Today our societies are not completely changed, but we say, changed. We need to see a complete change in it. The short stories MATHANGI DAASU and KAPULURI BANGARAIAH the good examples of the past of our societies. The barbarous practice of Mathangi, Devadasi, and Jogini, and caste were blows on the societal development. Why are these from the lower class only? Why not from the upper classes? These are unanswered questions from some of the people in society. These are the stories that show how education will change society. The book consisted a unique collection of 10 Telugu stories in Translation. Sometimes to justify the content, I borrowed Telugu words into English, most of the exclamatory words, some of Telugu words that do not have equivalent words in English, and some of the words representing cultural importance are not translated in these short stories. Those words are used as it is, and even the titles of stories are changed.
