Table of ContentsReviews'This original, scholarly and consistently entertaining volume … is written with panache and style and displays its remarkable scholarship with a light touch, often enlightened by a wit that is at times playful and at others sardonic. … I have a feeling that it may become a cult classic, especially among those legions of folks who have been TEFLers in their past, are currently toiling in the fields of TEFLdom, and perhaps even those who are contemplating such a future.'John SwalesEmeritus Professor of Linguistics, University of Michigan, USA Author InformationDavid B. Wilson studied History at Cambridge and Applied Linguistics at Lancaster University. His 40-year TEFLing career is notable for its scope and variety, having taught at every level from absolute beginners to very advanced (e.g. academic writing skills for post-graduate students). He has held university lectureships in Finland, Norway and Britain, and was Principal of a recognized language school in Brighton, UK. His ESP teaching and materials production has been primarily in aviation, working for a civil airline and two air forces, latterly training Finnish Air Force mechanics and pilots in how to use the technical manuals for the F18-Hornet. He has published extensively in both applied linguistics (child acquisition of language, discourse analysis, cultural differences in academic rhetoric, ethnomethodology, the Englishization of academe, and error analysis) and in literature (John Donne, William Empson, I. A. Richards, etc.). In addition, he co-authored many textbooks for Finnish schools and an ESP course for university students of economics. His most recent publication is an annotated anthology of poems in English about Finland 1635-2000. Tab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
