Overview

Is there a particular English attitude to sex? What makes it? Is it good? Is it bad? How has it changed? And what of the future? When it comes to our sexual instincts, much more than in any other field of human activity, the importance of our psychological heritage is paramount. This book suggests that there is both confusion and constraint, aggravated by grey skies and a rapidly developing multiracial society - compounded by an uneven historical, cultural, religious and educational background. Richard Goodall reviews English sexual trends from the 17th century to the first decade of the third millennium, citing the most recent statistical data. The reader will be surprised by some of his conclusions.

Author Information

The author is a retired solicitor who lives in Hertfordshire, England, with his first (and only) wife. He has three children and six grandchildren, which might just be enough. This is not his first work. He has also had published in 1995 The Comfort of Sin: Prostitutes and Prostitution in the 1990s (ISBN 1-898823-10-3) where he argues for the full decriminalisation of prostitution and the establishment of licensed, supervised and medically controlled brothels. He maintains that such a solution, if it doesn't eliminate, would noticeably reduce both the amount of violence against women and children and the presence of the sexual excrement on our streets and in our society. Richard Goodall also had published in 2000 The Divorce Dilemma (ISBN 1-898823-45-6), a study of marital incompatibility.
