"Joe Swann has spent the greater part of his life researching and documenting the history of David Crockett's life in East Tennessee. The spark behind this book is the David Crockett Rifle that has been in the author's family since 1800.Swann was born in East Tennessee and graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1972. He was appointed by the governor to the Tennessee Historical Commission, where he served from 2010 to 2020. Swann has been a member of the East Tennessee Historical Society for more than twenty years and served as president of from 1999-2002. In 2010, Swann became a member of the Tennessee Historical Commission, where he served for more than a decade on the historical markers committee. Swann has done numerous presentations on David Crockett's life in East Tennessee. Michael Wallis, author of The Lion of the West, wrote of Swann's new work, ""The voice and vision of Joe Swann echoes throughout much of this book."""
