Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationDr. Lori Ciccomascolo attended Southern Connecticut State University (B.S., Communication and M.S., Exercise Science) and Boston University (Ed.D., Curriculum and Teaching) and is an Associate Professor of Kinesiology at the University of Rhode Island (URI). She currently serves as the Director of the Physical and Health Education Teacher Education (PHETE) program and is the Graduate Director of Kinesiology. In addition to her work in the Department of Kinesiology, she served as the interim Associate Dean of the College of Human Science and Services and is currently the co-chair of URI’s Graduate Student Learning Outcomes and Assessment Committee. Her research interests focus on developing and implementing curricular interventions (e.g., girl-serving, outdoor education, and leadership) that promote the adoption and maintenance of physical activity among urban K-12 students. Her publications have appeared in the Journal of Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance and the Women in Sport and Physical Activity Journal and she has presented at regional and national conferences in the fields of Communication, Physical Education, and Physical Activity. Dr. Eileen Crowley Sullivan attended Skidmore College (B.S. in Physical Education), University of Maryland (M.A. in Physical Education Administration and Curriculum), and Boston University (Ed.D. from Curriculum and Teaching Department in the School of Education) and taught at Boston University for twenty-eight years. She served as the Program Coordinator of Physical Education, Health Education, and Coaching Specialization at Boston University’s School of Education and launched a 16-credit all Online Graduate Certificate in Physical Education, Health Education, and Coaching. Her teaching responsibilities at Boston University included the professional preparation of teachers for licensure in Physical Education and Health Education. She was the Coordinator and Supervisor of student teachers for pre-practicums and final practiums in the local schools. In addition to teaching theory and methods classes for the physical education majors, Dr. Sullivan taught the required movement education class for all elementary education majors. She taught undergraduate as well as graduate courses and particularly enjoyed mentoring doctoral students. She recently accepted a new position with Rhode Island College’s Feinstein School of Education and Human Development and serves as the Assistant Dean for Partnerships and Placements. She formalizes all placements for practicums and student teaching, plans professional development for the cooperating teachers and college supervisors, and cultivates district partnerships. Her research interests include teacher education, teacher effectiveness, parameters of student teaching, use of movement for cognitive reinforcement, the level of student involvement, and cooperative play. She consults and conducts numerous workshops for the professional development of cooperating teachers, as well as elementary education classroom teachers to learn about the benefits of movement and is well known for her presentations on the “New PE.” She serves as a movement specialist, working with local and national organizations to promote effective physical education programs. Some of her most recently published research focuses on the teaching behaviors of majors and non-majors, triangulation assessment with the use of a systematic observation instrument in the gymnasium, and assessment of student teachers using two different teaching approaches. Many know Eileen as the “Games Queen” and she even carries her passion for games into her family life. Eileen has two adult children, Cassie and Brendan, and lives in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts with her husband Bill.
