She is a McDonald Distinguished Senior Fellow at the Center for the Study of Law and Religion, Emory University. She has been a Visiting Scholar at Thomas More Law School, Australian Catholic University, the Faculty of Theology and Religion, University of Oxford, and a Fellow at the Käte Hamburger Center for Advanced Study of “Law as Culture” in Bonn. She has published extensively on the theory and sociology of canon law and on the status of religious law in modern societies. Her work in the area of law and religion extends to a variety of topics that examine both legal aspects and theological problems of law and religion from a cultural and social studies perspective.
