Ann Marie Burkhart was destined to change the world. She was born brilliant, beautiful and kind in Raleigh, NC in 1984, where she had an idyllic upbringing under doting, affluent parents, riding horses and reading poetry. Despite her advantages, Ann longed for a simple life as a social worker, using her gifts to help anyone in need. During her happiest days, in graduate school in California, came the incident that forever changed the trajectory of her life and the way in which she would try to heal the world, setting her on the path to inventing The Heart Filter, a miracle cure for all those who had become seriously ill. To properly administer the distribution of her invention, Ann ran for and won the presidency in 2040. In 2044, after being reelected, addressing a large crowd outside the US Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., President Burkhart was shot in the head, and her body crumpled to the ground. The audience, anticipating her major announcement, stood in shock, in terror, in wonder. They did not realize it then, but the war had begun. There is madness in all of us. With the President's introduction of The Heart Filter, this madness was given a reason to exist, to prosper, to rule. Ann was cognizant of this madness before turning 5 years old. They didn't know she would start the war: the war that turned friend to enemy, and family to foe. New lines were drawn in the sand, and in the end, only the Corelands remained.
