"John Barr never disappoints, and has written another exciting collection of organ music for Advent and Christmas. The first piece is an uplifting trumpet tune based on Adeste Fideles"" with the melody moving from hand to hand accompanied by both duple and triple patterns, and a simple pedal part. The lovely melody ""O Come Little Children"" is set in a bright, almost trio style and will be quickly learned. The final piece is a multi-sectioned partita based on ""Veni Emmanuel."" Barr opens with a haunting prelude with open fourths in a free meter, then moves to a simple trio form, followed by ""The Angel's Harp"" emulated by arpeggiated chords throughout. Movement IV is a sensitive ""Meditation"" registered with strings in the manuals and the melody in the pedal. Barr concludes this work with a grand ""toccata"" that lays easily under the hands.
