OverviewThis research consists of recovering the life and work of the Bahian chronicler Jehová de Carvalho, in his relationship with the city of Salvador and with the figures who passed through it, transformed into characters in his chronicles. To better understand his history and his critical view of urban life, we turn to the chronicles published in the newspapers Diário de Notícias, A Tarde, and the book A cidade que não dorme: crônicas noturnas de São Salvador da Bahia (The city that never sleeps: night chronicles of São Salvador da Bahia). The work includes readings on the history of Bahia in books and primary sources, which offer information on the urban and social changes in Salvador, with the intention of understanding the urban metamorphosis and contextualizing the facts narrated by the chronicler. The relevance of this work lies in its originality, since, for the first time in the history of Bahian literature, the journey of Jehová de Carvalho is reconstructed and analyzed. Thus, the research recovers the chronicles produced by the author, unknown even to many Bahians.
