Overview

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: The Church That Had Too Much had many good intentions. She wanted to love God, she wanted to love people, but she was both hampered by her muchness and the abundance of her possessions, and beset by ambition, power struggles and snobbery. Read about the surprising way The Church That Had Too Much began to resolve her problems in this deceptively simple and enchanting fable, illustrated in full colour. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Anita Mathias is the author of Wandering Between Two Worlds: Essays on Faith and Art. She has a B.A. and M.A. in English from Somerville College, Oxford University, and an M.A. in Creative Writing from the Ohio State University, USA. Reviews

"""I read this book last night. It is a parable, beautifully written and illustrated with pictures from the author's home and family. It is about how possessions drag us down and a church that had a radical way of dealing with this and the blessings that ensued. What struck me is that it would be a great resource for a church with a more informal service. The story could be read in the 'sermon slot' and Anita could be asked nicely for the pictures and they could be displayed on a screen. Or perhaps the story could be acted out and then people could break into discussion groups afterwards. I would recommend it."" -- Reverend Lesley Crawley This is a bold, clear and readable critique of the body of believers and our preoccupation with materialism. I think there are opportunities for a 'The Church That Had Too Much 2' by focusing on wealthy church denominations and institutions. -- Nick White"
