OverviewThe year in which the Captain William Smith House was built remains unknown. However, the archival research suggests that 1692 is the most likely date. Architecturally, the house has undergone four major changes to its exterior: circa 1742- 58; circa 1825; circa 1900- 10; and circa 1956. Despite these physical changes, the house retains much of its original fabric, and represents a fine example of late 17th- century architecture in New England.
