OverviewThe Capital Murders is a novel which examines the deception, quest for power, and the lengths to which men will resort in their desires for control the United States government. Marshal Mel Stubblefield is sent to Washington, D.C. to discover who is killing capital staffers. While he is searching for the killer(s), two factions are attempting to determine the political future of President Andrew Johnson. One faction want him to stay in office, the other want him impeached. Neither faction is concerned with what is best for the country. Then as now, money is the driving force in politics. Stubblefield's investigation leads to powerful forces which are willing to kill to achieve government contracts during the Reconstruction Era. As his investigation continues, he discovers that no one can be trusted in the deceitful atmosphere of the nation's capital. Attempts are made on Stubblefield's life, and he luckily survives each effort. As he comes closer to discovering those who are responsible for the murders, he suspects the people who sent for him are involved. When Stubblefield gets too close to the truth, the dark forces working behind the scenes force him to leave D.C. The results of his investigation lead to unlikely culprits and a complex and surprising ending.
