Author Information

As Chief Executive of charity Glasgow Life, Dr Bridget McConnell CBE, leads a staff of 2,600 working across nearly 100 culture and sport facilities and venues, enabling Glasgow's diverse communities to experience the life-changing benefits of participating in culture and sport at all levels, from grass roots to world-class. Having joined Glasgow City Council in 1998 as its first-ever Director of Culture and Leisure, Bridget led the refurbishment of Kelvingrove Art Gallery Museum and the creation of Riverside Museum. She was a board member of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and headed the delivery of its ceremonies and cultural programme. Bridget was the driving force  for the c£70m project to refurbish and redisplay the Burrell Collection, one of the world’s finest single art collections. Bridget also leads the city’s destination marketing, including the PEOPLE MAKE GLASGOW brand and Glasgow’s award-winning convention bureau, creating an international profile which inspires pride in local people and attracts visitors from around the world, supporting the local economy.
