Overview

Will the colonies lose everything they fought for? Confronted with economic collapse and near anarchy, who can save the union? Will freedom be just a new tyranny? Three destitute young men must find their fortunes amidst squabbling colonies that can't determine how to govern. They can barely feed and clothe themselves, with no money to be found anywhere, in addition to having to face bad weather, epidemics, thieves, and cut-throats, confronting them at every turn. Will competing parties with fears of monarchy and fears of anarchy ever be able to compromise enough to develop a stable government in which our young men can flourish?

Author Information

Dr. Saunders was born and raised near Boston, Massachusetts, and steeped in the history of that city - so crucial to the founding of the United States. Subsequently, he had the opportunity to live in four different European countries and travel extensively, both in Europe, and throughout the globe. Coming back to America after living in Europe for twenty-five years, he noticed an appalling lack of knowledge of our history, particularly in young people. He wrote the Young America series as a way of informing young people about our history and also promoting thought about the issues that caused dissension in those early days and are with us still.
