This book has been a way to cope with and process living through the insanity of four years with Donald J. Trump as president. The lying, corruption, narcissism, racism, and complete lack of empathy and decency have been stressful and all-consuming. Some of the images are dark, some are jokes, some are puns, some are surreal, and some are straight-up political cartoons. Inspired by the work of cartoonist Mike Luckovich, animator Bill Plympton, and the irreverent old master, Goya, these illustrations try to capture the anxious spectacle of what it has been like to live through the divisiveness of the Trump presidency.

Author Information

Joel Adams is a jazz trombonist, soccer coach, and a visual artist, living in Chicago and this is a book of 45 illustrations of Donald Trump from a series of cartoons called The Luddite's Hammer. In both his art and throughout the forty years he has been a professional jazz musician, he has incorporated his left-leaning political views and, through them, has expressed a lifelong concern for justice. He contributed political cartoons to his high school newspaper, has spent decades producing concert posters for his own band, has created CD covers, and also works in other mediums.
