Overview

Slippy and her brother Slider hatched out of an eel eggs in the Sargasso Sea. Join them as they lead their siblings on a long journey! From the spawning grounds in the ocean to their river destination, eel will travel by the millions. Their biggest challenge: don't get eaten. Their next biggest challenge: eat others once you're big enough. Their man-made challenge: make it over the dam! Getting the eel upstream is critical not just for them, but for us people as well. The eel pick up stealth passengers: baby mussels get inside their gills and grow there, until they are ready to detach and and settle on a river's bottom. One mussel can clean up to 20 gallons of water per day! If the eel don't make it upstream, the mussels won't make it either and our rivers will get dirty. Slippy and Slider didn't know it yet, but giving the mussels a ride upstream is mission critical! Lucky for you, they have helpers. Agnes, the sea turtle, escorts them to the Chesapeake Bay. From there on, Molly the Raven takes over as their teacher, explaining their role in the web of life. Molly's feathered friends just may help the eel complete their mission. Question is, will the eel trust them with their lives? Written by Kate Pavelle, Illustrated by Lee Pavelle. Mugen Press would like to thank American Rivers for helping us make this book possible.
