Robert Casilla was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, to parents from Puerto Rico.He received a bachelor of fine arts at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Robert has illustrated over 30 children's books, including picture book biographies and multicultural titles. Robert won a Pura Belpr Honor Award for his illustrations in First Day in Grapes.
