Table of ContentsReviewsThis is a fascinating book and I recommend it to anyone with an interest in the British Empire or the history of the British Army. It explains simply why soldiers do (and do not) fight and is an excellent read. 4.5 stars. * Army Rumour Service * Thoroughly researched...with well-written text, useful photographs, and four excellent maps...A thoroughly professional volume, with the promise of more to come. * Miniature Wargames - Chris Jarvis * The painting that adorns the front cover is simply breathtaking, and the contents of the book compare significantly to accounts of the defence of Rorke's Drift. A glorious slice of Victorian military history, brilliantly told. * Books Monthly * Author InformationDr John Laband is a Professor Emeritus of History, Wilfrid Laurier University, Canada; a Life Member of Clare Hall, University of Cambridge, England; a Fellow of the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa; a Research Associate in the Department of History, Stellenbosch University, South Africa; and an Adjunct Associate of the Laurier Centre for Military Strategic and Disarmament Studies, Canada.
