OverviewThis collection of meaningful discourses highlights the importance of words and the beauty of language. By studying the use of language from a selection of history's great and not-so-great rhetoricians, we can see how world leaders used words to impact their world. In addition, this text can accompany Thoughts Clothed in Words: Classical Rhetoric from a Biblical Worldview, the high school textbook. The Art of Fitting Expression contains the discourses--essays, speeches, letters--that we study in Thoughts Clothed in Words. Classical Rhetoric is best defined as the art and science of persuasion, but it is much more than that. It's about communicating well and expressing yourself to the best of your ability. Biblical Worldview Rhetoric is centered on the foundation of Christ, in whom all things hold together. In Thoughts Clothed in Words, we study Aristotle's Five Canons of Rhetoric, in addition to dissecting and examining speeches and essays, both historical and contemporary. We hope to discover how the writer persuades, utilizes a thesis, and implements figures of speech and style. This course emphasizes academic writing, use of a thesis, proofs, and the senior capstone Thesis Project. It also covers delivery of speeches from enunciation through debate to oral defense of the Thesis Project.
