The book is a great read, a symphony of the most up-to-date knowledge in the field. -- Philip E. Veenhuis, M.D., M.P.H., JAMA , July 2010

<p> The book is a great read, a symphony of the most up-to date knowledge in the field. These compendiums are good references for just about anything readers might want to know about psychiatry. -- Philip E. Veenhuis, MD, MPH, The Journal of the American Medical Association , January 2010

This new 5th edition combines the strengths of its three editors--Robert Hales in clinical and community psychiatry, Stuart Yudofsky in neuropsychiatry, and new co-editor Glen Gabbard in psychotherapy--in recruiting outstanding authors to summarize the latest developments in psychiatry. Throughout the 44 chapters, the authors provide a practical and integrative encyclopedia of useful information. This book resets the bar, and will be the new gold standard for years to come. -- Ming T. Tsuang, M.D., Ph.D., D.Sc., Behavioral Genomics Endowed Chair and University Professor, University of California; Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry and Director, Center for Behavioral Genomics, Department of Psychiatry, University of California, San Diego This is a fine textbook. It is very nicely produced, with abundant figures, tables, and illustrations. The chapters were written by many notable and respected clinicians, teachers, and researchers. The layout is very pleasing to the eye, with a red, white, and blue color theme used effectively throughout. -- Jason P. Caplan, M.D., Psychosomatics This book combines clinical wisdom and evidence in a seamless overview of the essentials of psychiatric treatment. It is comprehensive and yet thorough in its discussion of the multiple modalities of modern therapies. -- Robert Freedman, M.D., Professor and Chair, Department of Psychiatry, University of Colorado The book is a great read, a symphony of the most up-to-date knowledge in the field. -- Philip E. Veenhuis, M.D., M.P.H., JAMA , July 2010
