If you would rather speak the American way, this is the Course for you! For well over a generation, as America touches people in more ways in the emerging world, ever increasing numbers of people who speak English around the world see good sense in speaking it the American way - a well established, global standard. Yet, the English we speak depends on where we grew up and our individual circumstances. People from countries with historical exposure to Britain, speak an English in the British tradition. At the same time their English is also transformed to varying extents into local Accents by the influences of their more immediate social and cultural environments. Most of us recognize that the way we speak has enormous implications. Those who speak a global English, whether the American or the British, are at an advantage compared to those with local Accents. The educational system has not been able to counter the forces that cause Accents to localize, leaving some at a disadvantage. Until now, there was little that could be done about this. This is a Course that has been specially designed to help people who know English - no matter where in the world they live - to transition from speaking a local English to speaking the American global standard. Developed with scientific discipline - it explains phonetics in simple terms, gives examples for illustration, and precisely describes vocalization using the Accent sensitive Vocal Fidelity Phonetic System. Speaking the American way, you will find that you are viewed as more with it in America, better accepted in international settings and well regarded in your home country. It will promote opportunity, success and inclusion. This is the first Coursebook, of a three Coursebook series entitled The American Accent LearnwayTM. The first Coursebook takes you most of the way - it provides the foundation, words used the American way, and the most Distinctive Vocal Patterns. The second takes you almost all the way. The third closes the remaining gap.

I grew up in India where I went through most of my education. Though my parents came from different language backgrounds, the language spoken at home was English. My mother learned English at a Convent School in Bombay from Irish teachers. My father qualified at Cambridge University in the United Kingdom, becoming, in his career, the Legal Director for a multi-national organization, and later, the Principal of a Law College. Other influences included schooling at British schools for expatriates in India and subsequent schooling in the Indian Public School system.My mind was opened to the subject of Linguistics while at college. After a Bachelor's degree in English & Psychology, and then, a Master's degree in Sociology, both from Bombay University, I went on to have a career in Human Resource Management & Consulting with well known companies in India, the Middle East and the United States.I continued my education, along with my profession. In India, my learning from a two year foundation course for a doctoral level program in Human Resource Development contributed greatly to the scientific approach underlying the development of the American Accent Learnway. After moving to the United States in 2003, I earned a Master of Science Degree in Human Resource Management from Golden Gate University, in San Francisco. Over the course of my life, exposure to the diverse Accents of English across the world, the phonetics of other languages, and subsequently, to the English spoken in America, also provided relevant background for this work.
