What does it mean to be a superhero? Before 2001, that would have been a question relegated to comic books, but then The Event turned a small number of people around the world into superhumans. Martin McDavis, the accomplished young physicist who has brought science fiction to the world with working nuclear fusion, is also the world's most potent and mysterious superhero. Quarterback, the suited alter ego of Martin McDavis, has the unique superpower of being three-quarters as strong as other superhumans. While never the best at any one superpower, he is remarkably potent at everything. The alien empire that led to The Event has discovered that Earth had stopped its potent weapon and, in fact, has started to adopt its technology. Martin McDavis, aware of the Cubarian Empire's actions, leads the world's efforts in developing the technology to meet the Cubarians on their own terms.
