Overview

Legend of a Forgotten Hero - When Vortigern MacKay turned his back on his privileged upbringing he struggled to find a new role. Eventually he fetched up on the fringes of Arcadia in Seatown where he worked as a guard for Tegan Stuart, who was building a bridge over a stretch of deadly firewater. Tegan plans to reach Tuathal's Island and claim the treasure that is believed to be hidden there, but Vortigern uncovers a devious scheme to cross the firewater before him. To defeat the conspiracy Vortigern must risk revealing his secret past, which will put him in even more danger from the many factions that are lining up against him. Return of a Forgotten Hero - When soldier Ferguson Bancroft was captured by the Kinnears he was thrown into prison to rot. Ferguson never expected to be a free man again, but two years later Gideon Copeland, his old commander, breaks him out of jail. Gideon had been held captive, too, but on escaping he needs Ferguson for a new and dangerous mission. To defeat the Kinnears Arcadia needs an influx of funds and he has now found the location of the fabled Tuathal's treasure. Ferguson readily agrees to help Gideon, but he soon begins to wonder if the mission is all that it seems and whether Gideon has an ulterior motive. Death of a Merchant - When the popular merchant Malcolm O'Sullivan was murdered assistant procurator Hugh Lamont got his first chance to solve a major crime. He successfully proved that Malcolm's business rival Keane Murphy killed him, but after the trial a court guard is killed with a message left on the body that Keane was wronged. Hugh sets out to find out who was responsible and that leads him to a surprising conclusion. Having staked his reputation on his next arrest another court official is found dead leaving Hugh facing the end of his career and the possibility that the next target could be himself.
