Overview

A Place Called Westminster Shores Westminster Shores is a place that exists because of a dream. A dream that began during a golf game between friends. Their faith in God, and themselves, allowed the dream to grow and flourish. As the years went by, others picked up the mantle, and carried the dream forward. Westminster Shores upholds those values today, and will continue to do so to ensure that the dream of the founders endures into the future. As you read and look through this book, you will notice that there are not many names with the pictures. Sometimes this is because we did not have them, but most of the time, it was because we wanted this book to be about the place: Westminster Shores. Each Executive Director, each employee, each resident, has made or will make, a difference to Westminster Shores. Who we are or were, matters in the short term. In the long term it is the deeds that matter, not those who performed them. It is this place and this community, that we work to preserve. As human beings, we are on this earth for a very short time. In that time, if we are blessed, we will make a momentary positive difference in the lives of those around us; and if we are truly blessed, we will make a lasting difference that will benefit the lives of those who will come after us. That is the story of Westminster Shores, a place that allows us to make a positive difference for now and for the future. We are the beneficiaries of a connectional umbrella organization called Westminster Communities, consisting of the Presbyterian Retirement Communities. In the state of Florida this group is made up of nine Continuing Care Communities. Another sub-set organization called Westminster Retirement Communities consists of ten HUD rental locations throughout the State. In total, Westminster Communities is a combination of about twenty-eight corporations. This group, under the leadership for over 25 years of Jim Emerson, CEO, set the standard for the care of seniors and financial stability for the organization. Now, under the guidance of Roger Stevens, CEO, and his leadership team, along with the Board of Directors, Westminster Communities continues to exhibit a strong financial presence as a not-for-profit, faith-based organization, promoting wise stewardship. The old mantras are as true today as ever: bigger is not better, stronger is, no margin, no mission, and projects are funded that are controlled, manageable, and timely. It is good to know that as a faith-based not-for-profit agency, we are able to operate within budgetary constraints. In 2012 we generated $119M in income and kept to $115M in expenses. This is thanks to a team of wise leaders who have succeeded where others have failed in the past in the communities that had experienced previously financial difficulties.
