Overview

Sin is hot but purity is blistering. Hordes of cannibalistic sun-vampires rule the daylight hours, forcing the remaining humans to adapt to a grubby, nocturnal existence. When she sacrifices everything to become a Sunbather, queer Soph discovers that the heterosexual commune is not the glowing paradise she'd hoped for, and her new immortal body still yearns for womanflesh. After discovering that the Sunbathers are building a solar lamp that will enable them to walk in permanent light, Soph must decide if she's willing to doom what's left of humanity just to finally fit in.

Reviews

"""This book hooked me with an apocalypse, reeled me in with some nasty cannibalism, and landed me with a heartbreaking redemption story. Beneath the gore and the solar storms, Sunbathers is a compelling allegory about the dangerous allure of conformity-and why being ourselves is the only way to save the world."" Wendy N. Wagner, author of Girl in the Creek and The Deer Kings ""Singeingly fast-paced and unapologetically queer, Sunbathers serves up a playful slice of post-apocalyptic body horror that doesn't sacrifice social commentary to narrative thrills. A different kind of ""beach read"" that should appeal to fans of genre fiction."" Dr Xavier Aldana Reyes, author of Contemporary Body Horror (2024) ""Sunbathers is a magnifying glass, poised over the ruins of humanity in a ravaged near-future, examining desire, lust, and the carnal agony of perfection; focusing not only the brutal rays of a monstrous sun, but also the intense and searing eye of Lindz McLeod's formidable talent."" TJ Price, author of The Disappearance of Tom Nero ""Imagine our sun turning against us, solar flares generating intense bursts of radiaton that force humanity inside and ever further undergrounf. But some people stubbornly refuse to accept this environment reality and stay outside, turning first red, then black, and finally... into something else. Welcome to Sunbathers, where acquiring superhuman powers turns no one into a hero. This is a fantastically original, dark - or perhaps coruscating - and disturbing story about the decisions we make to change, and the costs of doing so. Can any sliver of humanity be salvaged in this dazzling new world?"" Dr Kat Day, Assistant Editor at Pseudopod"
